That Corner in our mind

In the race that is life,
as we tread along,
overcoming all the hurdles,
achieving all the feats,
challenging all the notions,
defeating all the myths;

why is it that a corner in our mind always looks behind,
to the past that was,
but is not around anymore?

why is it that a corner in our mind always looks behind,
losing itself in lanes of lost memories?

memories of the smiles scattered and the tears gathered,
memories that are crazy moments and stupid advents,
memories of the crowds and of loneliness.

Why is that a corner in our mind,
is part of us,
and yet not with us?

Footprint

In this world of black, white and the grey,
which color do you portray?

In this play of sun and the shade,
are you strong enough not to fade?

In this struggle for goodness and wealth,
are kindness & empathy your qualities stealth?

In this race with many turtles wise,
can you persist in midst of distractions & disguise?

In this soft, slippery sand of time,
will you leave your footprint behind?

[p.s. Had taken this photo sometime last year at a turtle farm in Tioman Island, Malaysia. That lining of small impressions is formed by footsteps of a turtle]
